I was lucky enough to TA for Paul during my thesis semester at The New School. He was an unfailingly kind and good-humored. A lot of my TA duties were along the lines of research, and the texts he'd send me after were inevitably special orders well-worth the finding. He signed all his emails with aliases (Wing Commander, Squadron 3 stays most with me). I'm grateful for his kindness, intelligence, generosity, and--most particularly--his thoughtfulness. I used to smoke in the courtyard with him or outside Cafe Loup and despite all those cigarettes and bummed lights, he knew not to mention smoking when he saw me with my mother at a book party the next year--instead, he spent a good twenty minutes charming her and telling her what an exemplary student I'd been. She still asks me about him sometimes. He'll be missed by legions.
