The New School Writing Program is happy to announce that Alex Crowley has won the first Paul Violi Prize. Congratulations, Alex. Honorable mention goes to Lizzy McDaniel and Allison Power. The judging was done blind, with authors' names withheld, by esteemed persons without a New School affiliation. The quality of the work submitted was very high.
The winner will receive a check for $500. We have raised sufficient funds to sustain the Violi prize on these terms for a number of years.
In the next few weeks we plan to run an interview with Alex Crowley and a poem from his winning manuscript.
In addition to being the first in what we hope will be an annual event, this year's prize is unique because many of the contestants worked with Paul Violi, were inspired by him, and mourn his loss profoundly.
The New School Writing Program will be hosting a memorial reading in honor of Paul on Friday, December 2nd, at 6:30 PM. Watch this space for more details.
