There's nobody like Cagney! He dances like a marionette, on his toes with a string yanking his tailbone skyward. So much fun to watch.

Isn't it great how Cagney talks his way through the song and manages nevertheless to convey the melody? "Yankee Doodle Dandy" is one of the best movie musicals -- much better than the usual bio-pic. Funny they did so well with George M. Cohan -- and not so well with Porter, Kern, Rodgers & Hart, et al, though i confess to liking all these pics, the not so good ones included.
