Oops! Forgot to put up a posting last night. Sorry! Time just got away from me. It seems I say that a lot lately, always apologizing for not getting back to people when they call and leave messages or send email. “Sorry it’s taken me a minute to get back to you,” I say, trying to minimize the days or weeks it’s actually taken. “It’s work,” I say, “It’s busy.” And it’s true. Mobile Libris is super labor intensive, each event needing to be shepherded through from start to finish, and lately we’ve had about eight events every day, sometimes more.
I got bogged down yesterday with this rather large conference we’re handling for the NYC School Libraries Conference, which is happening today. The organizers requested over 90 titles, including those of about eight authors who are presenting in panels and signing books throughout the course of the day. Ninety titles is a lot. I pared it down to 74. But imagine, with at least four copies of each books, sometimes as many as 20, that’s a butt-load of books, a lot to coordinate and pull together.
By the way, I do have help in the office, thank God. Lexie Smyth is my right-hand-man, so to speak. She does most of the book ordering after doing some on-line research on titles and authors and after we confer about how many of what we should order. That’s a small portion of the entire process of selling books at an event.
I have a couple photos of the car crash that is my office today.
