Something which has gone thus far (in the few hours since we started blogging) unremarked is that your guest bloggers this week are actually part of the same delightful family. Happenstance and miscommunication meant that photographic unity did not take place, but if you try to inch the photos at the top of this page slightly closer together, until they touch their sides together, you might be able to make the realitiy visible and tangible.
I was thinking about how much Beth has actually contributed to the translations I am making now, how her ear and her choice of words inform what i produce. Not explicitly, but implicitly, in the tone and the feeling of what I make. I probably take all this for granted way too much, especially since I began translating (Mongolian and, quite some time longer ago, Tibetan literature) before we met, but Beth is a subtle and beautiful poet (in all senses of those words) and her influence is pervasive, and I love both it (her influence) and her (her Bethness).
Beth, love, we should put up a photo of us together don't you think?
