Maybe he/she was badly treated in workshop, and this is the revenge.

I'm with Laura - there's an ax here somewhere, and it is grinding!

I know! Last evening, for the second time in the last two days, "Jacob Garrity," the bard of Queens College (as opposed to the queen of Bard College), is murdered by his ex-girlfriend, who is handy with a knife -- the episode to which you posted a link last week. After finding out about how rotten the poets are to one another, one of the detectives (Jeff Goldblum's partner) says that if her daughter ever got interested in poetry, she'd urge her to go into the Mafia instead. "Nicer people."

On a related note, does anyone remember the old L.A.LAW episode in which an English professor longed his whole life to own a Pontiac Trans-Am, saved his pennies and bought one, drove it off the lot and promptly wrapped it around a tree, turning himself into a quadriplegic? He then sued the seller; the charge was based on depraved indifference: "You knew the purchaser was a stupid mf'ing English professor who didn't have a clue about handling a big powerful car like that, yet you sold it to him anyway!" The whole story line operated off the assumption the English prof was an idiot who didn't know anything about the real world. [enter witty line here]

THE RULE OF THUMB
