The great jazz saxophonist Lester Young (left, with Billie Holiday) would have turned 100 this August 27th and our friend Jamie Katz has a moving tribute to "the Prez" over at Smithsonian. One of the first albums I ever bought for myself was The Big Three with tracks featuring Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, and Lester Young. Listening to the Young selections was a revelation. I wonder if Jamie would recommend a recording. . .
