(Stacey (l) and David celebrating this blog's first year)
We launched roughly three years ago (on January 17, 2008, to be exact), with this post. OK, so we haven't kept up with the monthly epigraph but we've since had 3800 posts by I -don't- know-how-many authors. We've won a few awards, and some who have posted here have had their work singled out elsewhere. The initial idea behind the blog was to create a place to counter the nasty material about poets and poetry.that was being posted in other blogs Later, one of our guest bloggers mentioned that he liked the idea of a blog that would show that poets could write good prose about subjects other than poetry. That seems about right although we've always liked to invite non-poet writers to contribute as well. Anyone who has been a guest author will tell you that no subject is off-limits. I like to think of the blog as bringing you the news, as written by poets and poetry lovers.
I'm always amazed by and grateful for the thoughtful and beautifully written posts that our bloggers contribute. We've had posts from all over the US plus Mongolia, the UK, Korea, China, Spain, Italy, and . . . I'm probably leaving someplace out. Word of mouth has led us to writers we otherwise would not have met. It's been a great experience! Here's to more birthdays!
