The big Cub Scout Jamboree –
Must be summer of ’55 or ’56 --
Hundreds, perhaps thousands of
Cub Scouts from across the city,
And near the end a kid I don’t
Know approaches me, he says,
‘You mouth off to your parents?’
Puzzled but intrigued by his question
I say ‘Not that much’ – and now it is he
That seems puzzled, as with evident
Concern he asks, ‘Why not? Look,
‘There is my father in an undershirt
‘And green janitor pants.’ And he yells,
‘Hey stupid! Dad! Hey numb nuts!’
