For the past several months we've been collaborating with Minneapolis based Motionpoems on a project that will turn 12-15 poems from the Best American Poetry 2011 into short films. The brainchild of poet Todd Boss (BAP 2010) and designer and producer Angella Kassube, Motionpoems connects video artists with poets and poems to make high quality films that you can watch online or in theaters. Check out the Motionpoems archive on Vimeo here and on YouTube here. Take a look at this film of Jane Hirshfield's "Suitcase." It's haunting.
Films from BAP 2011 poems will be screened at Open Book Literary Arts Center in Minneapolis on October 25 and will be free online for everyone.
Todd and Angela are passionate about bringing poets and filmmakers together. They have initiated a campaign through Kickstarter to raise funds to finance Motionpoems. They're so close to their goal! You can contribute to this exciting project here.
