Dear SR:
Very interesting, but did Cy Young take steroids? I think not. I think the "records" of all these drug-bloated pseudo-stars (McGwire et al.) should be expunged from the books. And where's this "Reagan" airport of which you write?

awesome, keep em coming

I've worshiped at the Church of Baseball since my brain first started filing memories, and Roger Clemens was my hero for approximately the middle third of my life. The greatest benefit of harboring a passionate (and possibly irrational) love of baseball is that it allows a man lifetime access to his boyhood heart. Beyond all the negatives that can be taken from Jeff Pearlman's book on the Rocket, there is no question that Clemens was always exceptionally good to kids. When MLB and the government chose to subject some of the game's all-time greatest (rather than the quad-A hitters, relief pitchers, and backup catchers who committed the same sins) through this public torment, it seems to me they did not consider the kids -- those who will never wholly grow up, loving the game for life -- who are deeply saddened to see their heroes treated this way.

Maybe I'm just completely out of touch, but this whole procedure seems insane. The guy faces up to 30 years in the clink for lying to a roomful of serial liars? And since when does anyone tell the truth to a congressional committee? And if perjury in this circumstance isnsuch an egregious crime, why isn't half of wall street, not to mention American tobacco execs and any number of other government bureaucrats or defense department/intelligence chiefs etc etc serving out their silver years in the slammer? Where's the precedent for this? The whole thing seems absurd. I would expect federal government has better things to do than torture Jeff Lewandowski's adolescent idol.
