Sonnet after Daniil Kharms
To drive – to fly – to walk. And now the car drove.
And now the nail drove. And now the news drove.
And now the lunacy. And now the plane flew.
And now the lark flew. The swallows. The owl. The dove.
And now the hat flew. And now time. And now time
Too quickly. And now a thought flies. An eye
flies. And now a fly flies. And thoughts, too quickly.
And then a fleeting dream. It flies too, of course.
And now a boy walks. And now a batter walks.
And now a dainty fawn walks for the first time.
And now a man walks. And a fancy speed walker.
And now a man with a cane. A now a priest,
a rabbi. And an Irish policeman walk into
a bar. And now wet yellow leaves fly by.
