I've been following Sloane Miller's career for years now as she's transformed herself from an aspiring writer to an effective advocate for people with food allergies. She was among the first to be featured in our Much Depends on Dinner series, and now, hooray, she has book coming out! One can imagine that potentially life-threatening food allergies in a food obsessed city like New York could be isolating but Sloane has not let her allergies keep her from dining is some of our finest restaurants and becoming a go-to resource for chefs, parents of food-allergic children, and from consulting with other experts on the recently adopted NIH food allergy guidelines.
So, in thinking about Sloane, I naturally wondered what I should do if she were to be my guest at a cocktail or dinner party. How could I make her feel safe in my home while at the same time serve delicious food that my non-allergic guests could enjoy as well? One thing led to another and a couple of weeks ago Sloane came by for a chat and a cooking lesson. She made a short video, too. You can check it out over at Please Don't Pass the Nuts, Sloane's lively and informative blog. But before you do, take a moment to pre-order her book. There is most certainly an allergic person in your life; click on the cover image and show some love:
