In June, the Academy of American Poets mailed out blank postcards to poets asking them to fill out the space -- in any manner they wished -- at some time during the summer.
The results of this enjoyable experiment are in -- some of them at any rate -- and can be viewed here. The postcard is no longer a fact of daily life, no longer a routine means of communication, but it is gaining respect as a creative space, an invitation to blend language with image. To the right you see the high-spirited and very summery card sent by Sharon Olds on July 6. -- DL
