and you prove that rhyme is logical
it is logical to rhyme sad with glad

though you don't use rhyme in your work
I can see you sitting at the counter

I'm there, too, with our pal Paul 
with whom the hostile gent with the leer

is trying to pick a fight well something queer
was going on all right, but I write without fear

for you have proved that talent sometimes
does win out and you have won out 

and your funny and your sad and your witty
and your glad as I think of you sitting pretty -- DL
