"Woman is the being who projects the greatest shadow or the greatest light into our dreams" wrote Baudelaire..."The Hourglass is the symbol of passing Time so woman is herself a symbol of time and each part of her body can be compared to a part of the day or to a season, which gives for example "my wife with buttocks of spring" (it is the correct translation). Those metaphors and other ones ("my wife with shoulders of champagne"etc...) are absolutely dazzling and "Free union" is probably one of the most fascinating and beautiful poems of the twentieth century. And the best André Breton ever wrote.
