Jennifer Michael Hecht is debuting her new book of poetry, Who Said, just out from Copper Canyon. She is the author of seven books of history, philosophy, and poetry, including the bestseller Doubt: A History, and Stay: A History of Suicide and the Philosophies Against It, out next month with Yale University Press. Hecht’s The End of the Soul: Scientific Modernity, Atheism, and Anthropology won Phi Beta Kappa’s Ralph Waldo Emerson Award “For scholarly studies that contribute significantly to interpretations of the intellectual and cultural condition of humanity.” Publisher’s Weekly called her poetry book, Funny, “One of the most original and entertaining books of the year.” Her first poetry book, The Next Ancient World, won the Poetry Society of America’s first book award. Hecht has written poetry and prose for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and The New Yorker. She holds a Ph.D. in the history of science from Columbia University and now teaches poetry and nonfiction at NYU, Columbia, and in the MFA program at the New School in New York City.
Amanda Smeltz is the author of Imperial Bender (Typecast, 2013) as well as the assistant poetry editor for Forklift, Ohio. Her interests include philosophy, history, swears and insults, bourbon, and big laughter. In addition to writing, you can find Smeltz in her Brooklyn stomping grounds working as a sommelier and wine director. Buy her a drink. She lives currently in NY, NY.
