« Nin Andrews Goes Beyond the Pale | Main | Putin Versus Obama on the Phone [by David Lehman] »

Gold has no real intrinsic value. I hate to be holding the bag when a commodity bubble bursts -- especially gold. The Poe story is, of course, odd and absorbing and wondrous. The Poe legislation is typical Republican tomfoolery. And all this talk is in the end just talk, right? And that's what makes markets.

Gold gives real value to printed money

Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Animalia (also called Metazoa). Their body plan eventually becomes fixed as they develop, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on in their lives. Most animals are motile, meaning they can move spontaneously and independently. All animals must ingest other organisms or their products for sustenance (see Heterotroph).

Many countries have a long time to keep your own gold reserves to support the national economy. However, in the mid-twentieth century, a significant portion of the abandoned gold reserves and foreign currency moved to the storage form of its financial reserves.

i really dont know why gold is given so much value.
