Swinging on a Star: Sinatra on the radio, July 1944 ("Your Hit Parade") [by David Lehman]

 

This is my favorite version of "Swinging on a Star," recorded live for the radio show "Your Hit Parade" in July 1944. Playing a priest, Bing Crosby sang it with a male chorus "Going My Way." The Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke hit won the Academy Award for best song in, I believe, 1945. On composer Van Heusen's gravestone the epitaph reads "Swinging on a Star." -- DL
