Like so much of Espada's work, "The Trouble Ball"--for me, at least--represents a very potent, thoughtful, uniquely intersecting mix of the personal, political and poetic. As a great novelist friend of mine remarked recently, "I don't think Martin is capable of writing anything that isn't excellent."
