« June Jordan: Pick of the Week [ed. Terence Winch] | Main | "Mourning the Loss of Bob Hershon" [by Thomas Devaney] »

March 21, 2021

Very upset to hear of this. I met Bob (thanks to Paul Violi) on my first visit to New York back in 1983, and we kept in touch ever since. I have a very hazy memory of visiting Bob and Donna in Brooklyn on a subsequent trip, and they may even have put me up for the night. It was a long time ago.

Bob was always so kind and generous, and contributed great poems on a number of occasions to the various things I edited, and I often turn to his work when I need a shot of delight.

My condolences to Donna and the family.

I sadly add another name to the ledger of formidable poets now gone: Polish polyglot poet Adam Zagajewski died yesterday at age 75 in southern Krakow.

Over the years I corresponded with Bob Hershon a few times--usually about how much I admired Terence Winch's verse published by Hanging Loose Press and my gratitude to him for publishing it.

Bob was always proud of the poets he published, and he always took seriously the mission of publisher.

I also admired his own poems. That gift helped him to recognize the same gift in others.

Bob will be missed by anyone who loves diverse, accomplished verse. His heart and hope were in the right place.
