Mark Strand was and is one of my favorite poets. I used to sit next to him at faculty meetings. I adored him. I miss his hilarious and brilliant emails to me. I miss this great, celebrated american poet.

I hope Mark would not mind this shared anecdote: After meeting the beautiful ballerina, Suzanne Farrell, at a ceremony and dinner for the arts, he said to me, "I'd drop everything and follow her around the world like a puppy!"

How I miss Mark!

Illusions are so compelling for a moment, like bubbles caught in the sun.
