Thank you for this fine, appreciative post on Tom's life, work, and character. He was, indeed, sweet--and kind and generous. I met him in the early 1960s through his best friend John Clute, the Canadian-born writer who compiles and edits the Science Fiction Encyclopedia. We were all just out of college and hopeful, then. Tom Disch was a visionary, like all great writers imagining "alternative" universes. He would have been destroyed even more cruelly by today's corporate-ruled publishing "industry."

One of my favorite poets, radically undervalued.
