For my first post, I’d like to highlight Breaking Form: a Poetry and Culture Podcast which began in December of 2021. The hosts, James Allen Hall and Aaron Smith, offer insightful, hilarious, dishy (or “Bysshy” in the case of Percy Bysshe Shelley) commentary on all things poetry. These endlessly inventive hosts play literary games like “When Rita Dove Cries” (where listeners guess if a statement is by Rita Dove or Prince) and “More Moore and Moore” (where listeners guess if a statement is by Marianne Moore or Julianne Moore). So far, Hall and Smith have interviewed Maureen Seaton, David Trinidad, Carl Phillips, Miguel Murphy, Jacques J. Rancourt, Diane Seuss, and moi, with more interviews on the way. Breaking Form starts with a warning that the two hosts will gossip, interview, and throw shade, acknowledging “we are not for everyone.” If you have Victorian sensibilities or a low tolerance for raunch, maybe stick with NPR. But if you are up for filth, poignancy, and belly laughs, you will be hooked. The hosts have an easy banter which makes you feel like you are at a party trying to keep up with really smart people …except you don’t even have to put on your lipstick (I’m looking at you Diane Seuss)! -- Denise Duhamel
