Twice, for the fall semesters of 1991 and 1993, I rented Richard Howard's flat (5X, as in Xanadu) in the Waverly Mews ("but in your case it should be spelled m-u-s-e"). Richard taught at the University of Houston in the fall and I needed a place in the city and was wilgling to be kidded by JA about what the arrangement may have implied. Here I am in 1993, with my son Joe, then nine. We're surrounded by books, with Richard's picture (painted by David Alexander) on the wall. Happy birthday, Richard, born on October 13, 1929. -- DL
