Many thanks for simply bringing Shelley's work forward. It spurred an effort to create a parallel poem -

"Philosophy of Loss"

The memories mingle with the pain

And the pain with the void within,

The ghosts of yesterday remain

Where your presence had been;

Nothing in this world stays whole;

All things by a law severe

Must part, as time takes its toll.

Why aren't you still here?—

See the shadows touch the night

And the graves rest close together;

No mourning heart could find respite

From losing one forever;

And the darkness claims the earth

And the stars fade in the sea:

What is all this living worth

Since you've left from me?
