Gene asked Jesus for a moment of his time
& they got together at the bottom of a mine
& Gene asked Jesus for a couple of bucks
& Jesus said ducks quack & chickens cluck
& Big Daddy Lipscomb fears no man
So be who you are to the best you can
Like Big Daddy Lipscomb is always mean
He calls me Jesus & I call him Gene
& we drive together on the unlit streets
To a boom-a-lay boom-a-lay old time beat
On the radio, Big Daddy Lipscomb & me,
Picking up chicks & being wild & free
   & Big Daddy Lipscomb is always mean,
   & he calls me Jesus and I call him Gene.
