I know the feeling, I had it with my own books. But really, you book is beyond that doubt barrier. Really.

Nin:

Always continue to doubt yourself. To me, it's the poet's best friend. There is a fine line between self-deprecation and humility. I would suggest you have the latter, and humility is what keeps the good poets writing good stuff and keeps them from being no-talent blowhards, wallowing in the safe predictable waters of their ego.

Thank you Richard and Peter! Your comments are making me feel much better!

Dear Nin, A famous Spanish poet (I honestly forget which one) once said, upon receiving a prestigious poetry award, "I'm not the best poet in my country. I'm not even the best poet on my block." You are not alone. Self-doubt is a usual thing, even for a remarkable, honest writer like yourself. Hearty congratulations on Son of a Bird from Etruscan Press.

Dear Nin, I looked through my old notes and found the exact quote. It was spoken by Jose Emilio Pacheco: "I am not the best poet in Mexico, not even of my neighborhood!" He added, "Only poetry matters, not poets." Peter Johnson's comment is so good.

I love that quote! I feel exactly like that. Thank you Emily!!!
